Introduction to Green Design Principles course. Overview of topics to be covered.

This module explores the principles of bioclimatic design through the study of vernacular and modern architectural approaches that respond to environmental and climatic conditions. You will learn to analyse local climates and apply passive design strategies, supported by real-world case studies, to create context-sensitive, energy-efficient, and resilient buildings.

This module introduces the fundamental physical principles that influence indoor environmental quality, including heat transfer, daylight, solar design and natural ventilation. It will equip you with the knowledge to understand passive design strategies that optimise energy use and occupant comfort through informed architectural decisions.

This module explores active building systems, examining how heating, cooling, and ventilation technologies contribute to environmental performance. Principles and applications of energy generation and renewable energy in buildings will be covered at both building and district scale.

This module focuses on the processes and tools involved in designing buildings with minimal environmental impact, from Passive House standards to regenerative approaches. You will learn about collaborative design methods and digital tools to support the development of low-carbon, net-zero, and environmentally restorative architecture.
